Broken Spirit

What do you think of when someone says, they have a broken spirit? One might think of a horse that was abused, it’s head hung low. Maybe a person that is always depressed, just plain wore out.

You see sin doesn’t want your flesh, it wants your spirit. The things we allow sin to tempt our flesh with is only a precursor to the bigger prize, your spirit. Sin wants to break your spirit.

Early Years

When were young we don’t even think in terms of sin or spirit.

Our bodies are still filled with energy, the world has a lot to tempt us with, who has time to contemplate the agenda of sin.

We see how greed has driven young and old into debt, this has broken many a spirit and caused much pain. Not only financial, but physical stress that has broken homes and marriages. Sin is the master destroyer of lives, but how many really see sin in that light?

But do you see how sin uses these things to go after the bigger goal, your spirit.

You know and sin knows your body is deteriorating as each days passes. When the day comes that your body stops working, what happens to your spirit?

The common answer is a trip to heaven or hell.

What’s the Point?

The point is, as our body weakens we want our spirit to get stronger, sin doesn’t want this to happen, why?

I’d be lying to you if I said I knew all the reasons why, but I do know sin is always trying to break down your spirit using whatever weapons it can.

People in fear of their jobs, do they have broken spirits? Do broken relationships render broken spirits? Folks losing material things, guilty feelings, are their spirits being broken?

Stop the Cycle

Being creatures of habit, we allow ourselves to make the same mistakes year after year. It becomes the norm, but deep inside we know it’s wrong.

This wears out ones spirit and esteem.

The good news is you have the power to stop the cycle, understanding sin and how it works is the first step. When you make up your mind to sin no more your telling sin your in charge again.

The Flesh

Your flesh, as they say, lives on a bunch of temporary pleasures. The thing about flesh is it’s never satisfied.

You have a new TV and next year you want the bigger one. You know junk food is bad for your health, but it tastes good. You should exercise, but your always tired. You get the picture, your flesh is subject to desires that don’t always benefit you.

This is where we make a choice, is it spirit over flesh? or do we shrug our shoulders and say “life is to short, lets enjoy it”. The problem is this enjoyment can lead to many more problems.

If I didn’t practice spirit over flesh, by now I would be on several prescriptions and in the grips of the drug companies today.

Sin Does Not want you to practice the discipline of controlling your flesh. The more it can persuade you to let your flesh master your spirit, the closer it comes to its goal of breaking your spirit.

Will drugs, alcohol, unfaithfulness, anger or any other negative vice make it better? You know the answer is no, in fact your flesh is out of control and your spirit is suffering.

A broken spirit is no joke, it can lead to many bad things. To change, you must understand and believe you can repair this situation. Then you have to exercise the right to do it. This is all based on one thing, God says the spirit is the overcomer of the flesh.

The conflicts are real, you know it because your not a peace. Don’t be mad at sin, it’s just doing its job. In fact don’t be mad at all, this is what sin wants you to do. Use what you know and make a decision, make a choice to sin no more, build your spirit so peace will be yours for the rest of time.
