Feeding Your Spirit

What is your spirit? Well, you hear all kinds of terms used with this word like “being in good spirits ” or spirits pertaining to alcohol or “lift your spirits” or “he is a free spirit” and so on. Your spirit is much more than these phrases suggest.

Lets make a comparison, lets take a television for example. You see the outside of it, the face (picture), your hear the audio and you see all these components within a casing. Behind the scenes there are electronic that make all of this work, but even deeper is electricity, this make the entire television come to life.

Now take yourself, you have the outside (flesh) this is what people see and hear. Inside are organs that keep you alive, but where does the electricity come from to power all these parts? It’s you spirit or as some would label it your energy source.

To simply state it, we are comprised of flesh and spirit.

Your Body

Your body (flesh) requires nutrition for survival, there’s no argument about that. To keep your body alive and functional you need to keep feeding it. Sometimes we feed it good food and other times we don’t, but either way it has to be fed.

Now, you have heard the saying “Desires of the Flesh?” Your flesh desires a different kind of food, it’s more of an emotional satisfaction.

It’s when these desires turn into addictions or compulsions that problems arise. So the question is, do the desires of your flesh coincide with your spirit? In many cases the answer is no, and this is where all the problems start. The energy that your spirit provides to run your body and mind starts to short circuit, instead of feeding your spirit you are shorting it out.

How much of your energy and time is spent worrying about money, health or other stuff?  This starts to negatively impact the way you think and ultimately your life itself. So, what’s the answer?

Step 1 – How to Feed Your Spirit?

You cannot feed your spirit with food or drinks, it has to be done through your mind.

If you don’t already know it your thoughts are the first line of attack for sin. If it can cut off your positive energy source it can do a lot of destruction not only to you, but through you. That’s right, you can do harm to other, it may not be physical harm, but it can be Hurt Harm.

Your spirit needs to be feed the truth – Lies, deception, these things hurt others and they starve your spirit from being feed. If we revert back to the example of the television set, what happens if the electricity gets turned off? That’s right, the television becomes useless, it doesn’t work. The same thing can happen to us, you start doing things that shut down your positive energy source and we become useless, we don’t work right anymore.

In the bible God keeps reiterating this one thing “Guard Your Mind”, whether you believe in God or not this is still good advice.

So, to feed your spirit you must focus on your thinking, are you turning positives into negatives? Or are you turning negatives into positives?

Step 2 – Making Small Changes

We are said to be creatures of habits, I do believe this is true. So, we have to identify those habits that are detrimental to our existence and attempt to change them. You see I used the word Attempt,  I know as well as you do that we don’t just change and all is well, it just doesn’t happen like that. This is why you will have more success if you make small changes.

If you continue to watch all the crap on TV that your mind regurgitates which then pollutes your circuitry, how do you expect to change?

Each of us has our own unique temptations that needs fixing. These fixes requires us to change what we do, these are habits we need to change. Sin wants to keep breaking our parts, this is the battle that goes on inside all of us, there are no exemptions. Even God fearing, church going Christians have some sort of battle brewing inside of them at one time or another. But they understand what it’s about and can work with their thoughts to disarm those negative intruders.

Whatever your weakness is you can overcome it by making small changes. As long as you are aware that the thing we call Sin is out there working in one direction, you can counter this negative attack by knowing that your spirit is working in your favor if you let it.

Let me remind you of this – you are in control of what you think. No matter how much negative stuff comes your way you still control how you handle it. I know for a fact that if you play the victim, if you let negativity be a weight around you neck that you don’t have a snowballs change in hell to fix it.

All of this talk is pointed to one common goal, a mature spirit. And a mature spirit makes all of our parts work just right, the way it was meant to be.
