The Source of Negative Thoughts
July 17th, 2010 | Author: adminAddiction, depression, anxiety, these are the actions of negative thoughts. Following this line of thinking, if we can stop these negative thoughts, then we can stop the actions that follow.
How many people associate sin with negative thoughts? I would guess not many. Boy, there are certainly enough things to choose from these days, that we can blame for our negative thinking. Out of the wide range of reasons, where is sin on the list?
How do we stay positive in the face of financial pressures? How about a sudden health problem that disrupts your life? There are any number of things that life can throw at us, were only human, that’s the problem.
Naturally Negative
There are many that say that human nature is naturally negative. From an early age were told don’t do that, no you can’t, these repetitive statements stick with us. As we get older it’s easy to replace no you can’t with I can’t, it becomes second nature.
So the question is, how do we change our nature? Lets break down the two elements, flesh and spirit.
If you look at the flesh, it responds to the surroundings. In general, were never satisfied. We need a bigger house, a newer car, the newer LCD TV, and the list goes on. You can find this pattern of fleshly desires in any area of life.
Now, when you can’t get what you want , doesn’t this open the door for disappointment, or a negative attitude? We can connect the dots from here back to some of the deadly sins, mainly greed and fear.
So here we go again, if we look deep enough there is sin right back at the core of the matter. But we have become so intelligent that we’ve added all these layers of reasons between the surface problems and the real core of the problems. No, we have allowed sin to manipulate us to where we, as a society, have created these buffers where sin is not included.
Make it Simple
Lets put it this way, the flesh wants to go right and the spirit wants to go left.
When negative thoughts strike we need to override our fleshes actions with the positive thoughts that a strong spirit provides. The foundation of a strong, positive spirit is determined by your beliefs.
When I encounter situations like this, and they happen all the time, I remind myself that the spirit is stronger than the flesh. You might question, how do you know this? Good question. It all comes back to beliefs and testing your beliefs out. For example, my body was sick for some time now. There came a day where I decided to test out my beliefs. As bad as I felt, I dragged my body outside and started jogging around the blocks. I was suppose to rest, but I decided either my spirit was going to overcome my physical illness or I would collapse on the street. This would prove that the spirit is more powerful or all I believed in was a bunch of crap.
I’ll tell you, my body fought me all the way around the blocks, and I did this every day for a month. Some days it seemed like I would die, but that’s OK because at some point we have to prove our beliefs.
It doesn’t stop there. If someone is mean to you, can you be nice back to them? Wouldn’t the human reaction be to be mean right back? “Do onto other as you would have them do onto you”…Sin didn’t say this, sin wants you to be mean back.
A man has a good family, a loving and faithful wife. His flesh desires to have a fling. Somewhere he has read “Thou shall not commit adultery” but his flesh wins this battle. He loses his wife and family, sin has another victory.
If you have nothing to battle the flesh with, it will win every time. We see how the desires for power, money, lust are destroying this world. I believe sin runs this world, I also know your spirit is stronger and have proven it to myself. I still make mistakes, but not as many now that I know who’s behind it all. How about you?
