Why would you think anything is wrong with vanity? Everybody likes to look good, we want to look younger and you can’t turn the channel without seeing ads for make-up or anti aging. So, what’s the problem?
Problem One
A society that has become occupied with the ME mentality doesn’t leave much room for sharing with others.
This is an accepted way of life these days, but lets take a moment to think about this. It’s nothing to spend $50.00 on perfume or even $100.00 on shoes that we add to our growing collection. How does this compare to a poor soul that needs something to eat? Maybe $5.00 to buy them a meal.
Oh I know there are some good people that do help and there are organizations that feed people too, but look around. It’s not the norm, were trained to spend on ourselves and the others in need are probably scammers anyway.
Sin wants you to see it this way and department stores don’t mind either.
Problem Two
Vanity costs money.
The things about this thing is it never ends. Today there’s a new product and then tomorrow there’s a better one. Or tomorrow what we bought today is just outdated and were convinced we need the newer one, even if the old one is still good.
This type of mentality that we have grown up with costs money. This has caused many people to go into debt. Debt that has created stress, anxiety, break-ups and health issues.
All sorts of material things are paraded in front of us daily. If your friends get a new car then we feel left behind, this vanity thing works on you. Eventually you justify buying a new car, this cycle never ends and it costs money to feed it.
Vanity blends in with the other sins like anger, greed, fear, worry, because ultimately it has to end. When it ends, other feelings take over and a new negative cycle begins.
Are you seeing how these 7 deadly sins all tie together?
The business of sin is alive and well. It masquerades as things we deal with daily and goes undetected just the way it likes it, you know better now.
